About Me

"It's never too late to be what you might have been."
~ George Elliot (pseudonym for Mary Ann Evans), English novelist, poet, essayist and translator (1819 - 1880)

Melinda Parkhurst, aka The Suburban Hippie, revels in all things creative while trying to be kind to the earth.  I am a creative lifestyle blogger, tribal fusion dancer, mixed media artist, photographer, a certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator with an M.A. in Transpersonal Psychology.

You will find me dabbling in all manner of creative endeavors surrounded by fabrics, paper, paint and glue, shopping thrift and vintage stores, digging in the dirt in the garden, stirring a pot on the stove or exploring where ever I find myself.

I believe that everyone who desires to be creative can find their artistic voice even with limited resources.  It takes letting go of expectations and enjoying the process of creative play.    I hope that by sharing my adventures, you’ll, too, be inspired to create.

I live in the suburbs of Washington, DC in a Victorian frame house that is in a constant state of renovation with a supportive husband and a variety of pets.

I am certified as a Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator and can help you create a more healthy, animal and plant friendly lifestyle.  I offer a variety of mindfulness and creativity workshops and personal coaching to inspire you to create a rich, fulfilling life.
